It was interesting listening to a lot of players over the weekend, and something that came up a shocking amount, how just how many “conspiracy theories” there were around how random outputs occur.
In case you are genuinely looking to educate yourself on how all this works, read up on things like Apophenia and the Gambler’s Fallacy, and how these are common things that all people do.
I’ve talked about this numerous times over the years, but understanding, not just how random systems work, but how players are going to perceive them, is essential to designing around randomness in video games. No matter how purely random you make things, people will have a distrust of your system.
But to be 100% clear here, no there are not seeds assigned to players that make them more likely to see specific units. No, we do not apply any increase/decrease to specific champions at the start of each game. It’s fun to joke around about these kinds of things, but please be careful in actually believing them. It’s generally not a good idea to not be educated on this kind of thing, as if you don’t catch yourself falling for it, you will end up making some pretty uninformed decisions in your life.
Anyway, just a short one today as listening to people talk about this kind of stuff is pretty silly. The team is prepping the final competitive patch today for Inkborn fables, so that’s a cool milestone to hit. Learnings article got finished up, and this week I’m working on REDACTED some more. Hope everyone has been enjoying the 5 year bash event! Otherwise, have a good week and take it easy 🙂
