Patch 14.4 is our smallest patch of all time, which is a good thing!

I’ve always said if we achieved “perfect balance” we wouldn’t patch TFT and would let it sit there for the remainder of the set. This is as close as we’ve ever come, and combined with the fact that the championship will be played on this patch, it was the perfect time to get pretty darn close to that. In terms of things that affect ranked, there are only 7 changes and they are all small fringe stuff like buffing 6 Rapidfire.

Now I can already hear the skeptics calling out “They think this is balanced???” And for full transparency, yes this is about as close to balanced as TFT can be. There are viable paths at every cost and every strategy, multiple of them in fact. Based on which portal is happening, some may have different strengths and weaknesses, but there are tons of viable strategies and almost any carry can do well. If you care deeply about a balanced meta with tons of skill expression, this is it!

But I’m also aware that’s not actually what everyone wants. Some players do not enjoy losing to a 1 or 2 cost reroll comp. Some players don’t enjoy losing to someone who played the econ trait well. Everyone has their preference for how the game SHOULD be played, and when it doesn’t fit into that mold they aren’t enjoying it as much. As I’ve mentioned before, it is impossible to please everyone.

There’s also another phenomenon I see due to how complex TFT is. Where someone will post an end game screen and say “How did 2nd lose to 1st?” But when you look at it, if you reversed the teams the question could still be asked. Stuff with fuzzy values like a Prismatic trait losing to a 3 star 4 cost becomes difficult to quantify, and therefore makes players question the balance since there is no clear indication of what SHOULD be.

TFT’s complexity makes it difficult to truly quantify what is balanced, but from my position, what you are playing is pretty darn close. Happy to discuss that as I am fully aware some will disagree, but it is what it is. 14.4 is tiny, then 14.5 is the final Remix Rumble patch and Set 11 heads to PBE. Pretty wild! Until then, take it easy!
